Polished plaster describes a range of decorative plaster finishes including traditional Venetian plaster which has been used for thousands of years, Marmorino which dates back to the Roman times and more modern textured, acrylic or synthetic plasters.
Polished plaster contains materials such as marble dust, limestone or marble chips and gives the appearance of polished marble. It is mainly used for interiors, to create a distinctive and luxurious finish on walls and ceilings. Polished plaster is also ideal for complex surfaces such as archways, columns and uneven walls.
Polished plaster is applied in a number of layers before being burnished and then sealed with protective wax. The application is time-consuming but when done correctly looks spectacular so it is advisable to use a specialist if you want a high-quality polished plaster finish.
Polished plaster provides many benefits
Polished plaster can be applied to a number of surfaces including wood, brick, stone, drywall, tiles and cement boards. It is also the easiest finish for columns and archways.
Polished plaster is extremely durable and lasts for years making it more cost-effective in the long term than paint which scuffs and fades or wallpaper which peels and gets torn.
Polished plaster is extremely simple to maintain. It can be easily cleaned and does not scuff or stain like paint work. If there is damage to an area it can easily be touched up without having to redecorate entire walls.
It may sound strange but because the plaster is breathable it prevents mildews and mould from growing which is better for your lungs. Lime has a high PH acting as an antibacterial surface which is why polished plaster makes a great choice for kitchens and bathrooms.
